Whitburn Graveyard Survey, Whitburn Parish Church – South Tyneside

Whitburn Parish Church dates from the early 13th century with later additions and alterations. It stands on the west side of Church Lane that leads to the picturesque main street of Whitburn Village.

This project was part of the Heritage Lottery Funded, Seascape, Tyne to Tees, Shores and Seas project. Whitburn community graveyard survey project was conducted over a 6 day period over three weeks, starting with two days in March 2022, two days in May 2022 and two days in March 2023.

The project involved the participation of 20 volunteers who identified and recorded each grave marker both by photographic and handwritten record and plotting their location within the graveyard. The information will be held by the Whitburn Village Society to inform further research into the village.
